Mr C. K. Kwong, JP is the Senior Partner of SFKS CK Kwong, Solicitors, recently appointed by Hong Kong Government Department of Justice as a member of law expert advisory group. He acted as 2023-2024 President of Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators (HKIArb) and International Past President of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA). Due to his contributions to the protection of intellectual property, Mr Kwong was appointed by the Hong Kong Government as Justice of the Peace in 2008. His practice covers arbitration, mediation, intellectual property (registration, licensing and enforcement of patent, design, copyright and trademark) and injunction proceedings, public and private corporate transactions, China projects, complex commercial litigation and mega property transactions.
Mr Kwong is qualified to practise law in Hong Kong, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Australia (Victoria), England and Singapore. He is also a Chartered Arbitrator and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb London), a World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) appointed (1) Neutral and Domain Name Panelist and (2) Panelist for the Legal Rights Objections (LRO) under the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANNY's New gTLD Program), Accredited Mediator of the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) and Notary Public. He is also on the Panel of Arbitrators for Intellectual Property and Adjudicators, and Listed Arbitrator of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC).
Guangdong Province High People's Court has made a special appointment of Mr Kwong as a Specially Invited Mediator of Guangdong Court for Cross-border Commercial Dispute Resolution in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. He is an appointed arbitrator of Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA) and Zhuhai Court of International Arbitration.
He proposed the idea of legislative guidance on the arbitrability of intellectual property rights which was accepted by the Hong Kong Government and is now provided for in the Arbitration (Amendment) Ordinance 2017. Mr Kwong is a director of Nano and Advanced Materials Institute (NAMI) and member of the Innovation and Technology Venture Fund (ITVF) Advisory Committee. His new book "Hong Kong Arbitration Judgments and Commentaries" was published by the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators in 2023.
